Royvon Merthyr: Our Original Headquarters

Royvon Merthyr Tydfil

Merthyr Tydfil is where it all began, over 50 years ago, and since 1959 we've cared for dogs from pet parents right across the UK. It's our headquarters, set on a private, secure 6-acre site with sweeping views of the valley and the nearby Brecon Beacons. The site is licensed by Merthyr Tydfil County Borough Council under reference AB 0001, and access is controlled through ANPR security gates, so every dog on site is somewhere we can properly account for.

Accommodation

We offer two types of accommodation: Standard rooms, each connected to an outside area dogs can access at their own pace during the day, and Hotel rooms, our premium option, typically larger and with more one-to-one time from staff for guests who settle better with extra attention. Which option suits your dog usually comes down to temperament as much as budget, some dogs do best with a quiet, predictable routine, others benefit from the additional company.

Care tailored to each dog

Every guest's needs differ, feeding routines, medication, emotional and social requirements, and we aim to keep each dog's daily routine as close as possible to what they're used to at home. Staff are on site around the clock, so routine checks and any medication schedule can be kept to the timing your dog is already used to, rather than fitted around office hours.

Activities

Dogs, like people, are healthier and happier with enough mental and physical exercise, which is why we offer a range of boarding activity packages. Our dedicated activities team knows each guest's health and wellbeing needs in detail, and the sessions on offer draw on the same enrichment toolkit we use in training, clicker work, scent games, agility and structured play, matched to what each individual dog actually enjoys rather than a one-size-fits-all schedule. We share daily photos and videos in our Facebook group so you can stay connected to your dog's stay throughout.

Training

Training sessions can be added to any stay, whether to address a specific challenge like recall or lead pulling, or simply to enhance the visit. Merthyr Tydfil is also where our residential training approach was first developed, so the trainers on site have direct experience with the method beyond a single course or qualification.
