Our puppy training philosophy

Our aim at Royvon is to help as many dogs as possible enjoy a happy life alongside their owners, and successful puppy training in the earliest days sets the tone for everything that follows. Get the foundations right early and you give yourself the best chance of enjoying the years ahead with the dog you hoped for, which is why we work with owners from before their puppy even arrives.

A growing personality

Alongside genetics, a puppy's early experiences shape a great deal of the personality they go on to show. Those first months bring real excitement alongside disrupted sleep and testing moments, and it's essential your puppy feels safe, secure and able to trust their new family, since that sense of comfort is what makes them receptive to learning in the first place. Preparing yourself mentally for a period of disruption is a healthy mindset, training genuinely takes time and input, and skipping that investment early usually means the disruption lasts longer, with behavioural issues surfacing later that need more significant intervention to resolve.

Laying the right foundations

Over more than 60 years working with puppies and dogs, we've seen how much the first few months matter, the steps taken then lay the groundwork for behaviour, good and bad, later on. Puppies are learning constantly during this window, even before they're fully vaccinated and able to explore the wider world, which is exactly why expert guidance early makes such a difference, it lets you make the most of a rapid learning window rather than leaving those early lessons to chance. Because puppies often aren't fully vaccinated yet, in-person training time can be limited, and well-meaning owners can easily fall into unhelpful habits that carry long-term consequences without realising it. Our New Puppy Training Masterclass was built specifically for this window, working with puppy and owner together from day one.

Finding the right training for your puppy

The right programme depends on your puppy, your household and your goals, there's no single route that suits every dog equally well. Our team helps you work out what's most suitable, with the aim of raising a happy, confident dog who can truly go places with you. We also share guidance through our YouTube channel and blog, covering common training and care questions, breed-specific quirks, and mistakes to avoid with a new puppy.

Why our approach focuses on movement and play

The sheer volume of puppy training advice out there, often contradictory, often too generic to be useful, leaves many owners confused, and can create real disagreement within a household about the right approach. At Royvon we build our approach around current research and positive reinforcement, giving owners a clearer, more consistent path. Movement and play are central to this: they're powerful ways to capture a puppy's interest and keep them looking to you for guidance. Training that's only repetitive, without enrichment, tends to produce behavioural problems, pulling on the lead, reactivity, aggression, separation anxiety, further down the line. Getting this right is often the difference between a dog that recalls happily in a busy park and one that decides to do its own thing, and the more confident you are that your dog will listen under real distraction, the more you can include them in daily life.

What we offer

Whether you need remote online training, in-person dog-and-owner training, or trusted boarding, our process is reward-based rather than punishment-based throughout. Many dogs behave well in a calm environment but struggle once real-world distractions appear, so we progressively build up distraction levels until a dog is really reliable outside the training room too.
