Is your dog showing aggression?
Aggression is communication, not just bad behaviour.
Dogs rarely show aggression for no reason. It may be linked to fear, anxiety, frustration, pain, poor early socialisation, guarding behaviour, breed traits or learned responses. The behaviour is the symptom not the whole story.
At Royvon, we take a calm, structured approach. Before recommending anything, we need to understand the trigger, the intensity, whether warning signs appear first and how quickly your dog recovers.
Book an assessmentYour dog may need support if they:
Growl, snap or bare teeth
Lunge at people or other dogs
Guard food, toys, beds or spaces
Bite or have a bite history
Show stiff body posture or hard staring
React to visitors at the door
Block movement or control space
Display sudden changes in behaviour
“Aggression is serious but it’s also communication.”
The first step is always understanding what your dog is trying to communicate and how we can help them make safer choices.
What we help with
The Challenges That Come With Aggression
Different forms of aggression need different approaches. We assess before recommending anything.
🐕
Dog-to-dog aggression
Barking, lunging, growling, snapping or fighting with other dogs on or off the lead.
👨
Stranger aggression
Reactions to unfamiliar people, delivery drivers, visitors, or people approaching in public.
🛡️
Resource guarding
Guarding food, toys, beds, spaces or people with growling, snapping or escalating behaviour.
🏠
Territorial behaviour
Reactions around the home, garden, car, doorway or familiar spaces when people approach.
👋
Handling sensitivity
Dogs who react to being touched, groomed, examined or moved often rooted in fear or past experience.
💖
Fear-based aggression
Aggression rooted in anxiety the dog feels trapped, overwhelmed or unable to escape a situation.
Our approach
Calm, controlled and reward-based.
At Royvon, we use positive reinforcement to help dogs learn safer, calmer responses. This does not mean ignoring serious behaviour, it means we focus on teaching your dog what to do instead, while managing the environment so they are not repeatedly pushed beyond what they can cope with.
If aggression is driven by fear, pain or anxiety, punishment can make the underlying emotion worse. It may suppress warning signs but leave the dog just as uncomfortable, sometimes more so. That can increase risk.
For any sudden or unusual aggression, we may also recommend a veterinary check before training progresses pain and medical issues can contribute significantly to aggressive behaviour.
“This is not about overpowering your dog.”
It’s about helping them feel safe enough to make better choices.
What we don’t do
✕
Use corrections or punishment that suppress warning signals
✕
Start exposure work before the dog is assessed
✕
Recommend residential training for every aggressive dog
✕
Make promises about eliminating aggression entirely
What we do
→
Understand triggers, history and emotional state first
→
Read body language and intervene earlier
→
Work at a level your dog can manage safely
→
Reward calmer choices consistently over time
→
Coach you to manage situations more confidently at home
How it works
How aggressive behaviour training works
A structured process that prioritises safety throughout.
01
Start with an assessment
We meet your dog, discuss the behaviour, understand the triggers and assess what’s driving the aggression before recommending anything.
02
Understand the trigger
We identify what your dog reacts to, the severity of the response, and what warning signals appear before the behaviour escalates.
03
Reduce pressure
A dog who feels trapped, threatened or overwhelmed is more likely to react. We work at a level your dog can manage.
04
Reward safer choices
Calm looking, disengaging, moving away, checking in and settling can all be reinforced when the dog is below threshold.
05
Gradual controlled exposure
Where appropriate, your dog is carefully introduced to lower-intensity versions of triggers in a controlled setting.
06
Owner coaching and handover
You learn how to manage situations, read your dog’s signals and continue the progress safely at home.

Dalmatian
Leah the Dalmatian
Here we have lovely Leah the Dalmatian! Leah has joined us for some training due to her nervousness around people, and also dogs which would cause her to react out of fear on the lead. Leah's trainer Rhona has addressed these issues whilst she has been staying on our 3 week Behaviour Modification Programme as you will see in the video. When Leah first came in she was extremely fearful of the staff and being in a group of dogs, but with some 1-1 time Rhona was able to build a great bond with her and really bring her out of her shell.
